Fresh Beginnings

Posted on 18 August 2008 by John

Our summer of “Revelation Relief” is quickly coming to a close.  Let’s plan on restarting again on September 8th and unless there is strong opposition otherwise, I’d suggest we remain at Brueggers.  We can move inside away from the pesky DP gnats and get one of the larger tables.  Frankly, I’m not sure where we left off, except I think it’s either Mike or Stephen’s turn to lead.

I’m wondering if it’s correct protocal to comment on my own post, but nonetheless, here goes. After our discussion yesterday, I feel that to continue in our current intellectual study of Revelation would be simply, “going through the motions.” I’d rather us not do that.

I realize we have a a strong commitment to always stay in the Word…choosing books of the Bible to study, and I’m still good with that if that is the will of the DBG’s. However, I’m also of the mind that we could find a very good, biblically based book, not too long, that we could use to study. As Mike said, something that would be present day applicable to issues that we as men face.

Lastly, I want us to find time to become more transparent and vulnerable to one another’s heart. It’s far too easy to continue thinking we can handle everything ourselevs and that’s dangerous. I’ve personally seem two men of late who have demonstrated this failure in life changing ways.

To that end, perhaps a quieter place to meet would be in order.

Thanks for the comments JS. I totally agree with you and I can say that to continue would be going through motions for me. I realize that it is not all about me (hush JS), but that is where I am at. I am very OK with a new book of the bible, but would also be OK with a “short” book that is applicable to our lives.

As we move throgh our day to day brokeness I think that being transparent to each other’s heart would be good for all of us regardless of the role we played. I am sure the trials that you assist christian brothers through, also have impact on your life as well.

To the DBG’s that visit THANKS for who you are and what you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m in agreement with John and Mike. I would like to see us move more towards two things. 1) More of an accountability group – that is more involvment in each of our lives and families and how we are dealing with issues as Christian men. 2) Finding and committing to some type of service that we do as a group on an ongoing basis.

As a side note. We will need to move the meeting time back to 6:30 for me to have the ability to participate in a meaningful manner – due to my work schedule.

I also agree with John, that if we’re going to move into the areas he mentioned, we will need a meeting place more condusive to privacy.

Looking forward to getting back together!
